Anyone that knows me really well, knows that I love me some green tea. Really, I think I love it too much. I drink it more than once a day, and I find that it makes me very happy. My husband likes to buy it for me from the store a lot, but that can get pretty pricey, and you don’t always get what I hoped for because he never brings me the same kind of tea.
Some time last week my husband did buy me some Sweet Leaf Green Tea with mint and honey and it was insanely delicious that I have to have it every day now. The only thing is that if I were to buy more than one a day, I’d be in some deep trouble with hubby…. (Don’t tell him I said that!) Anyway, in an effort to have this all the time, and not always have to run to the store, or have to buy a case of it, I figured out how to make it on my own.
It also helps that I basically have a yard full of fresh mint growing wild. It smells awesome, actually.
Anyway, I’d thought I’d share the recipe I concocted, but I have NO idea if this is the same recipe they use, so I hope I don’t get in trouble. It’s a great treat, and you’d never know it was low in calories and additives. Go figure! Give some love to Sweet Leaf Tea though, I got the idea from them. (They’re also an Austin company, WOOHOO for Austin!) I love supporting local Austin companies, so I will still buy this whenever I’m out and about.
Green Tea with Fresh Mint
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 Green Tea Bags (Making 32oz each)
- 1/4 Cup of Honey
- 1/8 Cup Sugar (I used Sugar in the Raw)
- 1 cup of Fresh Mint Leaves pulled from stems (Perhaps less, haven’t tested that)
- 64 oz of Water (Preferably Filtered to avoid any weird tastes)
- 1 Pitcher
- 1 Water Kettle or Pot to Boil Water
- 1 Stirring Spoon
- Ice
Instructions
Boil 3 cups of water (approximately 5 Minutes). Place tea bags and mint into pitcher. Pour boiling water over tea bags and mint, let steep (approximately 3-5 minutes, depending on how minty you want your tea) Remove tea bags and mint. Add sugar and honey. Stir. You may add more if you like, but for a low calorie drink that is still sweet, keep to the amounts listed. Now all you have to do is add water. Pour over ice, and serve. Mint sprig can be used as garnish. Makes 8 Cups.
Pretty Simple, and should take about 20 minutes or so.
I hope you all enjoy this, and let me know if you’ve tried it and become addicted like me. I hope I gave good instructions, but if you’re kitchen explodes, that’s all you!
It makes for a good iced drink to cool you off this very hot summer, and you’d never realize it’s actually good for you!
Cheers!
