What I Learned About Myself in the Mountains #evoconf

by Erica on June 30, 2010

Although it felt like weeks, it was mere days that I got to spend with some very cool and influential ladies up in the mountains in Park City, Utah, for the Evo Conference.  If you’ve read any of my prior posts, you realize that the mountains took a toll on me, and for good reason.  The days leading up to the conference, I didn’t eat, drink or sleep properly.

In no particular order, here are the things that I learned about myself in the mountains:

1. I need to drink way more water than I do.  After just one night, and not having humidity all around me, I realized just how much I have been forgetting to drink enough water.  I always make sure my daughter drinks enough, but apparently I’m so focused on her getting enough, that I’m just a far, far after thought.

2. I’ve been taking my family for granted.  When at home, I don’t realize just how important my family is to me.  It may sound ungrateful to most, but I find myself just getting in a routine without much thought and sometimes I complain.  Not being in a routine or having my favorite two around me, I had so much time on my hands, I barely knew what to do.  I’m so glad to be home with them, and feel grateful they are in my life.  They make my world go round.

3. I love being around women with similar interests and goals as myself.  Just a few months ago, I would never have dreamed that I would be fully immersed in the blogosphere and the business aspects that it had to offer, but here I am waist deep, and loving it.  It can be a steep learning curve, but the positive support coming from so many women is outstanding, and I’m glad I chose such a wonderful arena to be a part of.

4.  I do way too much on my own.  I think I stress myself out too much by wanting to do too many projects and join so many new sites, that I run myself ragged.  Meeting so many talented women has made me realize that many women are just like me, and want to do everything perfectly, that it can be to a detriment.  It’s my goal to start collaborating more on projects and stop trying to “go it” alone.

5. When I stop worrying so much, I can let loose, be myself and have fun.  I got to meet so many amazing women and Evo ’10 that I am truly humbled, and have much to learn.  One thing I have to work on, is stop worrying so damn much.  All the ladies in attendance seemed to really want to enjoy the time there, and just let loose.  I was glad to have a mommy break, but being so uptight about myself has only lead me to be stressed out.  I’m here to live life to it’s fullest and meeting so many women that are doing just that is truly inspiring and life altering.

I learned a lot more, but baby is about to wake up from her nap, so I leave you with this video of TravelersBarista and me letting loose and having fun.  Sorry about the cheesy music, I really had to edit out our noise since I did some serious expletive shouting and screaming, and would rather not offend anyone.  Hopefully I didn’t shred Crystal’s ear drums.

My question for you is, what have you learned about yourself lately?

Have a happy day!

That coaster looks awesome. It just keeps going and going. How cool!

You learned some valuable lessons. I learned many of those myself too during two conferences I attended earlier this year. I think we need to put more stock in ourselves and give ourselves credit for all we do. And, you’re right: it’s way too easy to take our families for granted, especially when we’re in the thick of things day to day. Taking time away like you did is a great way to refresh and remember who and what is important. I’m so glad you got to attend this conference. I watched from the Twitter sidelines and it looked wonderful. Hope to see you again soon!

the roller coaster really was awesome! yes, many lessons learned, and gladly learned, and has left all of us with a new perspective. Even daddy realized a few things while mom was away. The conference really was great, but I wishing all my #wildside hotties were there! Are you going to the #wildside reunion? I’m so there, and can’t wait to see you and everyone!

Glad you learned so many great lessons at EVO. I did too and one of them is not to wuss out on the rides because I’m wearing a shirt & very uncomfortable boots. Next year, it’s jeans & tennis shoes so I can enjoy myself! Looking at that Alpine Coaster vid, I totally would have loved it!

yes, it was sort of hard to accomplish in tight jeans and boots, but I got through it. You definitely have to try the alpine coaster next time, it was awesome. Next year, I am going to try the slide and the zipline. I was sad I couldn’t try them, but there is always another time. I had so much fun, and glad you learned many lessons too! Thanks for stopping by :)
