It's My Party…

by Erica on May 4, 2010

and I’ll cry if I want to! Well, it’s not my party, and there’s not just going to be one, there’s going to be TWO first birthday parties. Yes, we’re having two birthday parties for my little munchkin. Yes, she’s a princess and she deserves two!

I have a lot of planning still ahead since one party will be in Austin, and the other party will be in the town I grew up in. Since both sides of the family are very busy, we have to do it this way, and will probably do it like this every year.

On that note, I’ll go cry now! No, just kidding, but only a little. The reality, and also sad part, is that I dread planning parties. I have the overwhelming fear that it will be a flop and that everyone will be bored. I have this strange need to be the perfect hostess, and so I get lots of anxiety about hosting a party.

The good part is that the first party is only going to be a handful of my husband’s side of the family, so won’t require too much, and I at least have some time to plan it out.

The second party will be at my parent’s house and my mom is a busy body and always so helpful. I know that party will go really well.

So why all the anxiety? Well, the truth is that I used to host and throw some pretty cool parties back in my hay days, but those were not the kiddie type of parties….we’ll just leave it at that. HA!

Actually, now that I’m putting my thoughts to words, it doesn’t seem as daunting. I just want things to go smoothly and most importantly, I want my daughter to have fun and spend time with her family. Oh, and also get those perfect photo opps.

I’m so excited! About one year ago I became a mom! I never knew that motherhood could be so incredibly hard, yet so incredibly rewarding. We’ve almost gotten through the first year and all of us still have everything in tact. I count that as a win. Go family!

Anyway, now that I’m certain we’re having a party in Austin, I’m looking for some cheap and fun theme ideas for the first shindig. Any ideas?

What theme, if any, did you do for your baby’s first birthday?

Choose a theme that fits her personality and let her grabbed the cake with her hands and get messy!

We went through this a few weeks ago with our daughters first birthday. The way I figure it, the party is more for hte adults anyway! We did have kids activities for my friends kids though… it was fun… and exhausting!

Good luck!

We had two parties for EJ’s first birthday also. All in one day!!! Only half of the family could do lunch time and the other half dinner. I felt pressured into having two. 2 cakes also. One white cake because one particular family didn’t like chocolate cake and chocolate for those of us who do. It was so stressful! I’ve already laid down the law to the family this time round. There will be no duplicate parties. If you want to be there then yay! If not…. EJ won’t remember it anyways. :-) By the way… her b-day is coming up on the 22nd and your on the invite list. We are just going to do lunch at waterloo again. Easy and a great place to play. Its where we had her second party last year and we loved it.
