If you have any romaine lettuce in the house, check out the brief article from FoxNews about the recall due to E. Coli contamination.
I always wonder how or why such contamination can occur. Does anyone know? I find it interesting that there really isn’t any explanation as to why or how the contamination occurred.
Honestly, I’m not a really big fan of the bitter taste of Romaine lettuce, but I have eaten it in the past. I decided about two years ago that I would stop buying it because of the perceived after taste it left in my mouth. Maybe I was using it wrong? I don’t know.
Anyway, that’s off topic, but I love lettuce, and all things green, so it makes me nervous. I wonder are even organic varieties of lettuce can be contaminated. Also, why isn’t this being caught before people get sick? There should be more regulation on our foods, in regard to quality assurance. Maybe it’s wise to grow such things as lettuce and other easy to maintain fruits and vegetables at home for safe consumption, and not leave our safety in the hands of corporations. I’ve always wanted to grow lettuce at home. Anyone have any experience with it in Texas?
In any case, if you have romaine lettuce, be sure to check whether or not you are in a state where there has been a recall. E. Coli is a very harmful pathogen to contract, and I hope that this can reach those in affected states before there is any harm.
