I’ve been out of the office for quite some time. Sorry to those that check with me and care enough to read what I have to say, I promise not to be gone for so long in the future. The day before Easter, my husband stepped on a glass and cut his foot open, and we had to deal with that. Most of the week, I was adjusting to starting to work out again, and now baby is sick, probably from an other kid that was at the daycare. Booooooo.
It’s been an interesting week, but we got through it, and have to get back into the groove of things. During the week, I remember making mental notes of all the blog posts that I wanted to write. There was one concerning breastfeeding and infant mortality that I wanted to write about, but just didn’t have the energy to muster something up. Yes, sounds lame, right? I’m telling you about how lazy I am to write a compelling and though provoking article, and how I’ll probably never get around to actually writing that article. Disappointing, I know. I apologize in advance for never writing that article.
What’s really been on my mind today is my baby girl being sick and not being able to hold down much this morning. My daughter has been ill before with a fever, and other small ailments, but never to this degree. I never knew what sick was until today. I hate giving my daughter medicine, since I actually rarely take medicine, but with the degree of her fever (and her need to cling to mommy,) I knew that something had to be done. I stripped her down, and gave her tylenol. It worked for a little while, but then everything she ate came up.
Ok.
What next? Mom’s first reaction is to rush her to the ER, or to urgent care, but with our last visit, it was very expensive for them to just tell us give her some tylenol and ibuprofen. I could have read that on the internet for free! Anyway, such a worrisome day, but I followed the last directions we were given at the hospital and tried to manage her fever. After the next two puke episodes, she was finally able to hold down some breast milk and some small crackers. Whew! She was then able to hold down food and cereal and formula with no problems there after.
I’m always so proud of my daughter and how well she handles things, especially being sick. If it weren’t for her skin burning up and the vomiting, she probably wouldn’t have given much hint that she was feeling bad. Even though she was feeling ill, she still managed to be curious, be silly, dance, and smile, and helped me not stress that much about it.
I love babies.
I love my baby.
Since today was completely focused on a sick baby, I’m curious about yours. When your baby got the type of sickness where the ejection of bodily fluids ensued, what did you do? Did you panic? Did you hop in the car and head straight to the Dr. or ER? Did you even know what to do? What age was your child when hit with the first sickness? Give me details. I love hearing stories, so please feel free to share, if you dare.
Cheers,
~Hale Mom
