I Think I Brained My Damage

January 29, 2010 By: Halemom Category: Events, Miscellaneous, Uncategorized

Moving is a tough job, and is DEFINITELY harder when you have children! I never realized how hard it was going to be with a baby in tow, but we finally managed to do it. Thank you to everyone out there for your support and for still coming back to read my bloggy blog even though I haven’t been able to post every day.

Anyway, we finally got everything loaded into the moving truck and then brought it to the new place, and since the driveway is at an incline, it was a weird angle, so we had to duck our heads to get into the garage. This is where it gets good….I was helping my husband pull my daughter’s crib off the truck (baby was on our bed with a pillow fortress) and BAM! I hit my noggin dead on at the top of garage. Instantly I fell to my butt and just stopped while on the ramp in the rain. My husband thought I was bleeding, but I couldn’t say a word. Needless to say, I have a massive line of a bump on my head. What a great house warming present!

So from our move (which is still going on, sorta) we have had feet smashed, shins banged, arms and knees bruised, and a near concussion experience.

Anyway my friends, my computer is about to die and can’t find the cord, and my internet is slow because I’m tethering it since we have no internet here until Sunday.

Stay tuned for more adventures in moving land.

Making A Move

January 27, 2010 By: Halemom Category: Events, Miscellaneous

Yes, I’m making a move…to a neblank white delivery cargo truck 2w housing situation.  It’s a bit overwhelming, but thank goodness I have a husband that decided he was going to tackle it all.  He’s been doing a great job getting everything out of the old house and into the new, but the only problem is that there was no plan and it’s all in piles.  AHHHH!

I can’t even begin to fathom or even want to think about how terrible it’s going to be to put everything into place.  The worst part is that I even got boxes, but he refused to use them. HAH!  Since we’re moving  (and still in the process of it) things will be hectic, but I just wanted to share these great moving tips I found online that I wish I had found MUCH sooner.

Sometimes I just have a problem with making a plan, even though it would make my life much, much simpler.  Moving is never fun, but I think that the tips on the site would really make things much easier, and coordinated without the horrid piles.

Anyway, wish us luck.  I’m betting that it will take us another week after the move just to get ourselves organized again.  The move is going to be good though and we are looking forward to it.  I just hope that I don’t lose baby bear in our many piles, haha!

I love hearing stories, does anyone out there have any good moving stories (good or bad, bring ‘em on?!)

Cheers!

Now That I Think of It

pink piggy bank

I haven’t been very great at saving money where I could be, and so I need to start getting into the habit of preparing for our daily life and seeking out ways to live frugal without sacrificing all the luxuries that we enjoy.  I found a site where you can print online coupons and save on tons of places and stuff that we already buy.

I like that there are categories you can search through and find the items that you’d like to purchase.  I’m still looking for a fresh grocery place that will deliver groceries to my area, but there are several that deliver fresh foods to your door in certain areas, just not mine.  You can also find many places that you might shop to get plenty of food and beverage coupons though.

Also, Valentine’s day is around the corner and the site also had a lot of Valentine’s Day coupons, so if you’re on  a dime, yet still want to get flowers or another gift for Valentine’s day take a look at the coupons on the site.

There are tons of sections and brands that you can look through to find what you want to buy or might want to buy in the future for tons of savings.  Actually, I’m looking forward to the Benihana deal, but it’s only going on until the end of this month, so I’m hoping we’ll have a chance to go before the end of the month.

Anyway, happy saving!

Get Up

January 25, 2010 By: Halemom Category: Health, Opinion

Yes, I said it, get up and get off your butt. I’m guilty of this sometimes, but according to recent research and study, people that sit for long stretches of time can be adversely affecting their health.

Experts: Sitting too much could be deadly

http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_16052/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=GlEyaplI

I’m getting out of the habit of taking the easy way out if getting things done around the house and trying to get up and get moving more often. Now that I know it could be deadly to be lazy, I’m going to have to make some changes.

Instead I asking my husband to get me a glass of water, I’ll go get my own. There are so many small ways to get moving and interrupt sitting stretches as to minimize the risk of my health. I also need to take my daughter for more walks and take time to be less sedentary.

What are some ways you can make small changes to your day that can interrupt sitting stretches? Anyway, breaks are good for not only the mind, but for the body as well. So, unless you just sat down at the computer, and I’m the first thing you’ve read all day, take this time to take a walk, or go get a breath of fresh air, but please get up!

Stroller Recall

January 22, 2010 By: Halemom Category: Baby!, Miscellaneous, News

In case you haven’t heard: stop using your Graco stroller and make sure you are not using a model on the list.

What I find particularly disturbing is the fact that these strollers have been on the market for several years now, but they are barely being pulled due to incidents that have been reported.

I think there should be more testing and complete safety inspection when it comes to items that are going to hold our most precious cargo. Companies shouldn’t be allowed to put something on the market ghat hasn’t gone through a complete third party testing to ensure complete and utter safety.  Maybe there should be a 6 month testing period before new products are allowed on the market.

Photoxpress_3858444Imagine buying a stroller to cart your little munchkin, then while putting up the canopy to protect your little tykes face from the sun, your child is wiggling around and reaches for the canopy, and snap, your child’s fingertips have just been amputated or at the very least severely cut.

I don’t wish that on anybody, and couldn’t imagine the horror I would be experiencing if that were to happen to my family. If you were affected by the strollers in question, I hope you are coping well with the situation.

How about you, do you think there should be more oversight before these types of products go on the market? Who should be responsible for ensuring the safety of crucial items like strollers so that we can avoid devastating incidents from occurring?
