Another Tuesday has come and is soon to pass, and another day we forget about all the good things that we do that others might not recognize. Some might think it’s egotistical or plain weird that one would give themselves praise, but as a mother, things often go unnoticed without recognition or praise. Plus, self praise is as equally as important as praise from others.
For this Tuesday, I’d like to toot my own horn for being given the opportunity to volunteer to send out a care package to a troop serving overseas and sending it out. I did submit a post asking for some help, because I was hoping to send a large package and be able to get all the items on the wish list, but I guess no one read the post. I’m still a new blog, so my readership needs some work, but that’s okay.
I was able to get most of the items on the wish list, and could barely fit everything in the flat rate package. I didn’t know that the post office has a flat rate box for APO/FPO addresses, and they even give a discount for sending those packages. The box is labeled, “America Supports You” and I believe this is the second year they are offering it. The press release linked to here says $10.95, but I ended up paying $11.95, which is still pretty good.
Anyway, since Christmas is around the corner, I couldn’t afford to buy all the things that were on the list, and was sad about that. I think I was able to get most of the items, but I was happy that the box was filled to the brim and that I was able to help in some way. By the look of the list, the soldier I sent the package to is in need of very basic necessities, and so I tried to stock him up on those important things. I just hope it gets to him by Christmas, but I’m sure he’ll be happy whenever he gets it.
For those needing shipping info, and for all those that want to send out a package and have not been able to do it yet, (and the address is not APO/FPO AE ZIP 093) Express Mail deadline is December 18, 2009. First Class Mail for letters and Card and Priority Mail is December 11, 2009.
Anyway, I wholeheartedly believe more in giving than receiving, and even believe that giving is an important part of emotional health. I suppose that most mothers have a giving and nurturing nature, so I guess this is something that is stressed even more in the short months I’ve been a mother. It’s just something about giving and sharing that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Now it’s your turn! Toot your own horn! What have you done lately that you’re proud of? Do you know someone that needs a bit of recognition? Share this post with them, and encourage them to share their story.
Ready, set, TOOT!

Woohoo! Go you! Every mom should be able to toot their own horn every once in awhile. I can toot my own horn because this week I am taking care of my husband who threw out his back, a 3 month old, and a very busy 21 month old. Oh and everything that needs to get done with our household and writing for 2 blogs. I also cooked and bought a present for a friend’s family whose husband recently got diagnosed with cancer which I found very rewarding.
Thanks! You’re AWESOME! You must be some sort of Supermom! Good job for having such a big heart, and for taking care of your family so well.
